Where Big Ideas Take Root

We envision a just, equitable, and regenerative food system where people and the environment thrive.

SFC is working toward a world where locally produced nutritious food and ingredients are the norm. We envision a food system where people know the farmers who produce their food and where the majority of local food is grown and raised in our own communities.

At the heart of SFC’s Strategic Vision is a circular economy that supports people and the environment through a just and equitable system of production, distribution, and consumption.

SFC’s Strategic Vision for Transforming the Texas Food System

What is the Food System?

The food system connects everything that happens with food—people and processes from production to processing, distribution, consumption, waste, and recovery of food and its byproducts. The system impacts the availability and accessibility of food and influences our health, nutrition, environment, and the overall well-being of our community.

How SFC Impacts the Food System

To positively impact the food system, SFC examines how people access high-quality, nutritious food. We work to reduce barriers like affordability, increase knowledge in areas like cooking skills, and improve the sustainability of local food production in Texas.

Where Big Ideas Take Root

Why Local Food Matters

By growing food locally, we create a reliable source of fresh, nutritious food that enhances community health and wellbeing. Local food production also supports the local economy by creating locally-owned businesses, employment opportunities, and increased resilience through local sourcing.

Sustainable Food Center Strategic Objectives

To achieve our strategic vision, we have developed four strategic objectives that align our vision with our four main programs.

Expand Food Access

Increase food access to reduce diet-related diseases and improve food security

Sustain Texas Farmers
