Become an SFC Farm to School Ambassador

Another school year is underway for all AISD students and staff, which means another year of Farm to School – and we need your help!

We are very excited about our growing efforts with the AISD Food and Nutrition Services team to help procure and promote healthy, local fruits and vegetables as part of the offerings in each and every school cafeteria. That is our primary goal with our Farm to School program, and we couldn’t do this without the help of our Farm to School Ambassadors.

Ambassadors are volunteers who visit AISD school cafeterias during lunch time and engage students with healthy, local foods. They will lead fruit and veggie sampling activities in the cafeterias using produce that the Ambassadors procure from local farmers, prepare themselves and take to the schools.

Ambassadors may also attend other school events such as Health Fairs and CATCH nights, as requested and available, to expand their local food promotion efforts and to further engage communities through healthy eating and local food system learning. Creativity, enthusiasm, and motivation are primary qualifications of our successful Ambassadors. Ambassadors can receive school credit with approval from appropriate faculty. Any age and experience level can apply for this position – we would love a strong and varied team of folks for this 2016 – ’17 school year.
