The SFC Double Dollars program is the first of its kind in Texas. This Sustainable Food Center program started at one of our weekly markets in 2012, where we offered a dollar for dollar match for SNAP, WIC and Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program (FMNP) benefits. Customers could purchase up to $20 per market with their Lone Star/SNAP or WIC cards to buy more fruits and vegetables for themselves and/or their families. Soon after, we expanded this program to all SFC Farmers’ Markets and we have kept growing ever since. Over the past five years, the SFC Double Dollars program has been added to five farmers markets, two urban farms, three farm stands and four mobile markets (see below), a total of 14 food access sites!
This means that our SNAP and WIC customers have access to additional resources to purchase healthy, local produce and our farmers at SFC farmers’ markets have access to $126,000 of additional revenue! It’s a win-win situation.
If that wasn’t exciting enough, we have more great news to share! We now are doubling up to $30 dollars for SNAP and WIC (only at SFC Farmers’ Markets). That means if we run a SNAP card for $30 we will give back $60 in Double Dollars to use at our SFC Farmers’ Markets and our Double Dollar partner markets like Green Gate Farms, Texas Farmers’ Market or Springdale Farm!
