We Challenge You to Eat Local this May!

Celebrate the most abundant season Central Texas has to offer with Sustainable Food Center’s Eat Local Challenge during the month of May! While you may be under the impression that May brings spring flowers, it also brings spring produce like peaches, tomatoes, peas, lettuces, strawberries, squash, and so much more. Which means that participating in SFC’s Eat Local Challenge is not only easy, it’s also delicious and nutritious.

The Eat Local Challenge is about supporting your local farmer, your health, and the environment. You can participate at SFC Farmers’ Markets or through Farm to Work (if available at your worksite).

Eat Local Challenge at SFC Farmers’ Markets

Every time you come to the market this May to shop for your weekly allotment of produce, meat, cheeses, jams, and more, you can enter to win a cooler of fresh local food!

Challenge Basics:

  • Pick up your veggie passport at the info booth at either the SFC Farmers’ Market Downtown or at Sunset Valley.
  • Each time you visit the market in May, you can enter your name into the raffle. More visits = more chances to win!
  • Winners are chosen June 1st; prize can be picked up the following weekend at the market, June 7th.
  • Prize will be a cooler of fresh local market goods (vegetarian and omnivore options).

See you at the market!

Eat Local Challenge with SFC Farm to Work

2018 marks Farm to Work’s second annual Eat Local Challenge. Last year, over 100 employees at participating sites finished the challenge, putting more of their food dollars into the hands of local farmers while also supporting their own health. The 2017 Eat Local Challenge brought our local farmers $47,362 in one month, making it the program’s most successful month since Farm to Work launched in 2007.

This year, we are challenging participating worksites and their employees to continue their commitment to small farmers, healthy food, and a resilient local food system. Employees at participating sites who order every opportunity in the month of May will receive a prize of local goods.

Contact us to see you if your worksite participates in Farm to Work.
