Three Things To Grill This Summer

It’s official: Summer grilling season is here! Expand your repertoire and celebrate the Independence Day holiday with some summer fruits and veggies that taste great grilled! Here are three new things to try your hand at grilling, if you haven’t already.

Tomatoes

Tomatoes are abundant at SFC Farmers' Markets and in gardens right now. For large tomatoes, cut in half and grill. For small tomatoes, grill whole and place on a smaller grill grate if needed, or on foil. Grill until they are slightly charred. Remove, drizzle with olive oil, and season with salt and pepper. Serve with fish, chicken or steak. Or toss with cooked pasta, or serve alongside vegetarian dish like tabouli.

Peaches

Grilled fruit is D-E-L-I-C-I-O-U-S as the caramelization intensifies and deepens the sweetness of the natural sugars. Cut peaches in half and remove from the pit (if possible). Grill each side of the peach half for several minutes, until slightly charred. Remove and serve warm. Take it up a notch by serving with goat cheese and balsamic vinegar. Thanks, Edible Austin for this yummy recipe!

Bread

Buy a hearty loaf of bread and slice into large pieces. Grill until toasted, and toss into our Texified Panzanella Salad. And grilled tomatoes would make an excellent addition! Or, spread grilled bread with goat cheese, fresh basil and sliced tomatoes.
