When asked who the person who influenced you most in life, who would not answer their mother? Especially, this weekend with Mother’s Day on Sunday. If you are still looking for that perfect gift, come join us at the market. Sustainable Food Center Farmers’ Market at Sunset Valley this weekend will have some incredible artists. Travis Weige will have his hand made kitchen knives, and Terra Goodwin will have incredible fiber art. You can also pick up jewelry from George with Dream Bijoux. And as always the Farmers’ Markets will have all the fresh strawberries, produce like squash blossoms and eggs from Fruitful Hill Farm, eggs from Flintrock Hill Farm, and chicken from Dewberry Hill Farms that you need to make the perfect breakfast in bed or dinner. (Yes, we have three farms that have “Hill” in their names at Sunset Valley). More eggs from Hairston Creek Farm, and Richardson Farms.
If Sunset Valley is too far, come to Sustainable Food Center Farmers’ Market Downtown. You will find excellent chocolates at Cocoa Pura, or how about a nice breakfast from Anjore Diner at market? Does your mom have a sweet tooth? Pick up a cake from Curious Confections or Melissa Brinkmann with The Cake and Spoon, who is also cooking quiche to win your vote at the Taste Off.
This week’s Taste Off will be featuring Melissa with The Cake and Spoon and Sari, SFC’s Grow Local Director. Not sure what a Taste off is? Think Bobby Flay’s Throw Down -- only in this case it is a farmers’ market vendor against SFC staff. Each competitor will vie for your vote while they cook a Mother’s Day-themed breakfast. Sari will be making a version of huevos a la Mexicana. Many eggs available Downtown from Milagro Farm, Smith and Smith Farm, Oma’s and Opa’s Farm, Phoenix Farm, Countryside Farms and Richardson Farms.
As if that is not enough, you can buy a copy of renowned author Terry Walter’s new cook book and have her sign it. She will be signing books right next to the Taste Off. It should be an incredible weekend for you to find your mother something special from the SFC Farmers’ Markets.
