4th Edition Cookbook Cover

Presenting the 4th Edition of Fresh Seasonal Recipes – New AND Digital!

Due to COVID-19, SFC staffs' last day in the office was March 13th. Then just 3 days later on March 16th, 500 copies of our brand new edition of The Happy Kitchen cookbook, Fresh Seasonal Recipes, arrived.

When we started working on the new edition, we hadn’t planned to create a digital version, but we know that easy, affordable, healthy recipes are important now and we want to help.

And, a little more selfishly, after several years of testing, editing, proofreading, translating, and analyzing these recipes, we also couldn’t wait to share them with you!

Digital downloads of the new cookbook are now available for purchase on our website in English or Spanish! You can also pre-order print copies and they’ll be shipped when we resume normal office hours.

What can you expect from the new edition?

The book includes familiar favorites from the previous book alongside new additions. About 35 of the 101 recipes are totally new. Over half of the old recipes were improved.

Each recipe is marked with the food group, nutrition facts, and cost per serving. The average cost per serving is $0.78!

The book has indexes by the season, recipe category, and ingredient. Do you need more recipes for eggplant? Have you been wanting to use up the coriander or cardamom you bought once and haven’t used it since? Our index can help.

We include a variety of recipes, including main dishes, sides, sauces, breakfast, and dessert, but the focus for the new edition is fresh local produce. We also added serving ideas, cooking tips, and suggested substitutions in many of the recipes to support people who may be new to cooking, or new to cooking like this.

We have several new recipes that use local vegetables as a main ingredient, like Curried Butternut Squash Soup, Eggplant Bolognese, and Teriyaki Bok Choy with Chicken.

We also have flexible recipes, like How to Make a Frittata, that can be made with lots of different veggies. We hope that these changes will make it easier to cook with fresh ingredients from a local farmers’ market, farm stand, garden, or local produce subscription.

Thank you to the Happy Kitchen community!

This is dedicated to the participants and facilitators of The Happy Kitchen. It exists because of their interest in learning and sharing new ways of healthy cooking. We are inspired every day by their work to improve their own health, their community’s health, and the health of our planet.

We are especially grateful to the participants, facilitators, staff, and volunteers who submitted recipe ideas and helped us along the way. We could not have done this without you.
