Job Description:

This is a part-time position at 20-40 hours per month, Saturdays 6am-4.30pm, rain or shine.

This position will serve as head of the market team tasked with successfully setting up the weekly Saturday markets. Working here you will engage with customers and vendors, physically set up the market site, troubleshoot any day-of issues, and coordinate collections from our vendors. Market Associate Leads bear more responsibility than the rest of the crew, with handling the truck, the extra load in and out required by going to the office pre- and post-market, and coordinating and reporting on the day’s at-market matters.

Job Duties:

  • Onsite manager of a team of 3-5 market associates; delegate tasks as needed

  • Coordinate with markets managers on the days activities, leave detailed reports for follow-up midweek

  • Consistently collect accurate vendor fees, market scrip, and estimates

  • Support shoppers at the market by addressing urgent issues and maintaining a clean and safe environment

  • Act as an advocate for SFC’s work

About you:

You enjoy working with the public and sharing information that will help customers and vendors to have a great market experience and get what they need. You enjoy the one-to-one interaction and are a good listener. You enjoy working independently and also with a diverse group of teammates where everyone has a job to do and simultaneously supports each other’s collective team success. You understand sometimes people may share stress but are there to help them find an answer. You value diverse communities, are compassionate to what they may need and want to provide solutions within what resources are available.

Qualifications:

  • Regular and reliable availability on Saturdays

  • Reliable transportation to work sites

  • 18+ years of age

  • Current Driver’s License and a clean driving record

  • Current Food Handler Certificate (or ability to obtain certification in 14 days after hire)

  • Able to safely lift 50+ pounds

  • Able to interact with vendors and customers in a positive and professional manner

  • Able to deescalate tense situations

  • Available for mandatory crew meetings, held once every 3 months after markets

  • Good team ethic and sense of humor

  • Bilingual Spanish/English speaker preferred, but not required

  • Occasional midweek availability preferred, but not required

  • Experience working on a diverse team.

Note: With the on-going COVID-19 pandemic, it is important to note that this position is deemed essential and requires public interaction. You will be required to follow strict safety protocols in order to protect both you and the customers and vendors. Even with the safety precautions, there is still a degree of risk involved and so we strongly encourage you to take this into consideration before applying.
