Sari Albornoz

Grow Local Program Director

Sari Albornoz holds a Bachelor of Arts in biology and anthropology from Reed College and a Permaculture Design Certificate from the Austin Permaculture Guild. She is inspired by the ways food gardening positively and powerfully impacts individuals, communities, and the environment, and she is passionate about making these benefits available to the people of her native Austin. Since 2008, Sari has worked with Sustainable Food Center’s Grow Local program to promote the proliferation and success of community, school, and home food gardens through education, advocacy, and assistance accessing resources. Sari leads the Coalition of Austin Community Gardens, a community garden advocacy group whose work has led to City policy changes that increase support for community gardens. Previous to working with Sustainable Food Center, Sari gardened with youth through 4-H CAPITAL. Sari enjoys growing her own food, tasting new foods while visiting new places, seeing kids get excited about natural phenomena, and exploring the wilderness at national parks.
