Welcome Sophie Fitzpatrick

Join us in welcoming Sophie Fitzpatrick to SFC’s The Happy Kitchen/La Cocina Alegre®! It’s been two years since SFC moved into its headquarters in Central East Austin, and given the increase in cooking classes and rentals happening in both the kitchen and community room, Sophie brings much needed support and cheeky English humor to the team.

A little about Sophie in her own words…

Born in Liverpool, England.

At 15 years old, I got my first job in the culinary industry. I bussed tables and washed dishes! I then worked my way into the kitchen, firstly as an expeditor - to prep cook - to line cook - to kitchen captain.

After I graduated high school, I attended the University of Newcastle and completed an undergrad in History (BA Hons). I majored in American History and the Civil Rights Movement which led me to travel the US at the age of 21 for 3 months. It is on this trip that I fell in love with Texas.

I returned home and back to my chef position. I also worked part time as a Teaching Assistant. Whilst working & saving up for the big move to the US, I completed an online TEFL course from Cambridge University {Teaching English as a Foreign Language}.

I officially moved to Austin in January, 2013 and to attend the Art Institute of Austin to study Culinary Management. I graduated December 2014.

During and after my culinary degree, I worked as the Food Manager/Chef of the Firehouse Lounge in DT Austin– we have been featured on an episode of Man Finds Food on the Travel Channel.

Part of the SFC team since July 2015.
