Healthy Community Food Systems

The Sustainable Food Center invites you to participate in The Healthy Community Food Systems training module. This online training course introduces communities to improvements in the way they grow, share, and prepare food.

There is little wide-spread knowledge about the food system and many Central Texans are unaware of how to access healthy food options. In partnership with the Sustainable Food Center, The Texas Department of State Health Services developed this course, with the idea of strengthening the local food systems and improving health outcomes for all Texans.

The training course is open to anyone and may be of particular interest to those who work in the food access industry and the overall health community. Through this training, you will learn how a local food system:

• Improves the physical health of residents

• Boosts an area’s economy

• Builds the community’s cultural well-being

• Fosters a more sustainable environment

The course is applicable in both rural and urban areas. CEU credits are available. Go to http://sustainablefoodcenter.org/healthy-community-food-systems-module to begin the course today. If you would like more information about the training or have any questions, please email bringinghealthyback@dshs.state.tx.us.
