Announcing Our New Facebook Group - Come Fresco y Sano!

You might have noticed in the past year and a half that we have a new Spanish language version of our website and more bilingual signage at our SFC Farmers’ Markets. These changes finally match what we have always done on the ground; providing high quality bilingual resources to the communities we serve that in Austin. At SFC, we offer bilingual materials in all departments, as well as a Spanish language Fotonovela where SNAP customers can learn how to participate in our SFC Double Dollars project.

Our next exciting step in bilingual engagement is our SFC Facebook group for Spanish speakers called Come Fresco y Sano en Austin, a collaborative effort between Sustainable Food Center and the public relations consulting group, Inspirare Communications.

This Facebook group will be a space for ideas, recipes, and resources to talk about everything from preparing healthier meals with quality and seasonal ingredients to growing your favorite local produce.

With this innovative marketing tactic, we are providing a platform for open dialogue with the community about healthy eating, using seasonal and local ingredients, optimizing a home budget and taking advantage of community resources, events, and programs. Since our organization reflects a whole systems approach to food, so will this Facebook group!

Better yet, anyone can participate in the group as long as they are residents of Central Texas!

2018 Embajadoras Facebook Spanish

Currently, we have 11 “Embajadoras” or ambassadors with the role of increasing awareness about the group in the Spanish speaking community. Some of the Embajadoras are Happy Kitchen facilitators and others have been through Community Health Worker training with Latino Healthcare Forum and El Buen Samaritano. The response of the community has been amazing! Embajadoras have begun to invite people to participate and we already have 500 new members in just one week!

We hope that this group will motivate new populations to try out all that SFC offers and increase our outreach successes within Central Texas Hispanic communities.

If you are interested, or know someone who would be interested, we would like to ask your support to spread the word of our brand new Spanish Facebook group! Please share this link.

Special thanks to our intern Jaleesa Casson for supporting this wonderful community engagement SFC initiative.
