This Saturday, June 18, we will have the pleasure of participating in the Juneteenth community event organized by the Greater East Austin Youth Association (G.E.A.Y.A.) at Rosewood Park. This will be our first time participating, and we are so looking forward to it! Juneteenth is a momentous celebration, marking the emancipation of slaves in Texas (a full two and a half years after the rest of the country).
As we have previously mentioned, we are thrilled to celebrate and honor a rich tradition of cooking and gardening that is a part of the African diaspora. The event is free, and open to the public! We will have information about SFC programs such as our Farmers’ Markets, free cooking and gardening classes, free gardening resources, and our Double Dollars Program. We’ll also have a gardening activity for kids where they can practice planning a garden. Come on over and say hello!
