Republic Square Park is the oldest city park in Austin. In fact, this small urban park is home to the Auction Oaks of Austin, where the first lots of Austin were sold to the public. Over the past 18 months, Republic Square has been undergoing a huge renovation, and our SFC Farmers’ Market Downtown is moving back in soon! We will have our own specialized market promenade, dedicated café and stage area, plus a huge grassy lawn for the kiddos to run around or take a yoga class.
If ever you were going to check out our SFC Farmers’ Market Downtown, October 7th is the day. Not only will Republic Square Park be open to the public, it’s the first Saturday of the month! SFC Farmers’ Markets First Saturdays is a new series of market days featuring new vendors, stellar music, a bunch of activities, and a hot-off-the-presses merchandise giveaway!
New vendors starting on October 7th are Garbo’s Lobster Austin slinging lobster rolls, clam chowder, and fish and chips fresh from the coast. A Pup Above will have premium dog food made with whole and local ingredients. Texas Gourmet Pasta has 38 varieties of whole wheat pasta and 8 gluten free pasta types made with natural ingredients that are so flavorful you won’t need sauce to cover it up.
South Austin folks aren’t going to miss out on all this fun either. The CapCity Marching Band Festival is taking place on October 7th at the Toney Burger Center, but our SFC Farmers' Market at Sunset Valley won’t be moving far away from its existing location. New vendors like Sudakas Latin Fusion will be serving up Latin American flavors made with local and seasonal ingredients (think tacos, tortas and Cubanos.) La Flaca Urban Gardens grow over 200 varieties of hard to find herbs and heirloom veggies right in the heart of Austin, and Bliss Kids Yoga will be back to help center your little ones.
Did we mention that we also have new Sustainable Food Center merchandise?
