Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program starts April 1st, 2017!

At Sustainable Food Center, we believe it is more important than ever to make our Farmers’ Markets accessible to everyone. One of the ways we can do that is through an initiative with the Texas Department of Agriculture called the Farmers Market Nutrition Program. This is a seasonal program that provides families who participate in WIC (Women Infant and Children) more incentives to shop locally to purchase fresh and seasonal fruits and vegetables from our Texas farmers.

We love the Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program because it introduces new customers to the market every year, increases sales for local farmers, all the while improving access to healthy food for our community. Last year, FMNP brought in approximately $63,000 in fruit and vegetable sales to our Austin area!

WIC participants will receive Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program (FMNP) vouchers to buy fresh fruits and vegetables at participating farmers’ markets. Participants can pick up their vouchers at the Double Dollars booth and get $30 in vouchers for each FMNP eligible child and parent.

SFC offers another $30 in Double Dollars for each voucher booklet through the SFC Double Dollars project. That is a total of $60 to spend on fruits and vegetables! To see if you are eligible to receive FMNP vouchers, contact your local WIC clinic.

If you receive WIC benefits, please:

  • Bring your WIC Shopping List to a participating farmers’ markets.

  • Pick up FMNP Vouchers at the Double Dollars Information Booth.

  • Use vouchers like cash with any fruit and vegetable vendor.

  • Get $30 SFC Double Dollars to purchase more fruits and vegetables
