Free Cooking after Cancer Series

SFC's The Happy Kitchen/La Cocina Alegre® is excited to announce the next Cooking After Cancer series—a free six-week cooking class for cancer survivors! Class will meet on Mondays from March 23 to April 27 from 6-7:30 PM at SFC Teaching Kitchen, and we can provide free childcare and transportation assistance if you’d need a gas card or a bus pass to help you arrive.

Participants should plan to attend all six weeks, and we recommend the class for people who are at least four months out of treatment. The series is a mix of cooking and nutrition education, and each week will feature a recipe either from SFC The Happy Kitchen’s Fresh, Seasonal Recipes cookbook or from Rebecca Katz’s The Cancer-Fighting Kitchen. Class facilitators will demo the recipe during class, and participants will take home a free bag of groceries to prepare that week’s recipe at home.

Participants in the class can expect to:

• Learn about foods that minimize side effects, improve appetite, and aid digestion

• Be informed of a whole foods approach to good nutrition

• Learn the significance of good nutrition as part of cancer treatment, recovery and prevention

• Learn to prepare delicious and inexpensive meals

• Discover shopping, meal planning, and cooking tips

• Have fun and meet new people

To register, please contact class facilitator Anne Winckler at 512-694-4467 or awinckleraustin@gmail.com, or for general questions about the class, contact molly@sustainablefoodcenter.org.
