SFC Farmers' Market Associate

We're looking for motivated individuals to serve as part of a team to successfully set up the weekly Saturday farmers' markets and engage with the different populations of clients and customers that attend the market each week.


Founded in 1993, with roots dating back to 1975 as Austin Community Gardens, Sustainable Food Center (SFC) is involved in every step of our local, Central Texas, food system. Our mission is to cultivate a just and regenerative food system so people and the environment can thrive.

Job Description:

This is a part-time position at 5-7 hours per week. Saturdays Only. 8:00am – 2:00pm, rain or shine.

This position will serve as part of a team to successfully set up the weekly Saturday markets and engage with the different populations of clients and customers that attend the market each week.

The position will be a representative of our Double Up Food Bucks (DUFB) program working with different clients to share the information and resources they have access to through the program. The position will also engage with vendors and customers, help collect and log transactions and provide support to the rest of the market team for a variety of setup needs.

Job Duties:

  • Conduct and record transactions at the DUFB booth for SNAP WIC
  • Assist vendors with a variety of information and select tasks, as requested and authorized per Market Lead
  • Consistently collect accurate vendor fees, market scrip, and estimates
  • Disseminating information DUFB partners such as Fresh for Less
  • Deploy market signage, both internal and external to market site
  • Support first-time shoppers at the market
  • Take pictures of the produce and post on social media DUFB channels

You enjoy working with the public and sharing information that will help customers and vendors to have a great market experience and get what they need. You enjoy the one-to-one interaction and are a good listener. You enjoy working independently and also with a diverse group of teammates where everyone has a job to do and simultaneously supports each other’s collective team success. You understand sometimes people may share stress but are there to help them find an answer. You value diverse communities, are compassionate to what they may need, and want to provide solutions within what resources are available.


  • Regular and reliable availability on Saturdays
  • Bilingual and bi-literate (English/Spanish) required.
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Reliable transportation to work sites
  • 18+ years of age
  • Current Driver’s License and a clean driving record
  • Current Food Handler Certificate (or ability to obtain certification in 14 days after hire)
  • Able to safely lift 50+ pounds
  • Able to interact with vendors and customers in a positive and professional manner
  • Able to deescalate tense situations
  • Adaptability to a fast-paced environment
  • Available for mandatory crew meetings, held once every 3 months after markets
  • Proficient in using a computer for data entry, including MS Office applications

  • Experience working on a diverse team.
