Holiday Shopping the Sustainable Food Center Way

By now you have probably heard that Sustainable Food Center has four Farmers’ Markets to shop for your holiday cheer. Several people already had their Thanksgiving Turkey, and are ready for their Christmas ham and their pork for New Year’s day. We love to see you each and every holiday bringing joy with you as you shop. So let me tell you about a great place to bring the entire family, make an evening out of it and shop as well. Each year the state capital, KUT and Downtown Austin Alliance get together to put on the Holiday Stroll. It starts this Saturday at 5:00 pm. You can arrive early for the Sing Along with KUTX’s John Aielli, and get your hot chocolate from Texas Coffee Traders. You may know John Aielli from his show Eklektikos and as one of the longest running DJs in Austin. As the sing-along ends the Christmas tree is lit around 7:00. Then everyone strolls Congress Street for Christmas shopping.

As you head south of the tree you will find our Holiday Market. We will have everything from goat’s milk truffles from Swede Farm to jewelry with Dream Bijoux and t-shirts from Will Heron. There will be great stocking stuffers as well like Austin Honey Co.’s local honey, Cocoa Puro’s chocolate, or Sarah Ross’s herbal elixirs. If you have not had dinner, and want great food you can enjoy Tamale Addiction or anyone of the many pastry vendors we will have onsite. And if you are just looking for a quick bite to make the kids and you happy try some of Gold Star Kettle Corn’s amazing kettle style popcorn.

If you are not sure what to give this season, SFC’s team will be there as well. So stop by the information booth and either pick up some great SFC swag like our hat, t-shirts, or water bottles. And if you are still undecided you can always get SFC Market dollars. These are good at all of our markets for anything you would like to purchase. We will also be able to sign you up for anyone of our upcoming classes from Grow Local or La Cocina Alegre. And if that is not enough fun, we have a full kitchen cooking up samples from the market for you to taste.

We hope to see you out first at our markets’ Saturday morning and then again in the evening on Congress Street in front of the capital building for the Sing Along and Holiday Stroll.
