SFC Farmers’ Market Coordinator

The SFC Farmers’ Market Coordinator oversees and implements a wide variety of operational, administrative and supervisory tasks in preparation for, during, and after an SFC Farmers’ Market, including supply and inventory oversight, set-up and breakdown, collecting fees and market data, and submitting post-market reports. This position is specifically for the SFC Farmers' Market Downtown location, SFC’s flagship market. The coordinator serves as onsite representative of SFC, which includes support, training, and advocacy for farmers and vendors, as well as customer service and public relations. The coordinator recruits, trains, and manages market crew, and assists with support for volunteers, other staff, sponsors, and various partners. The coordinator also contributes to the market advertising and PR plan by coordinating activities and events, providing information about vendors and markets, and leading the coordination and implementation of SFC’s social media strategy for markets.

Job Duties:

SFC Farmers’ Market Downtown Operations and Administration

  • Perform pre-market duties prior to SFC Farmers’ Market operations day. This will include communications with vendors concerning attendance or other issues, preparation for special events or activities, gathering all necessary supplies and equipment, ensuring administrative documents are prepared (receipts, estimates, scrip collection), creating market layout, charging computers and other machines for a given market
  • Load and transports equipment on market day.
  • Lead market crew in set-up and take-down of market equipment, and monitor vendor set-and breakdown.
  • Serve as contact and SFC liaison for market sponsors/partners, musicians, activity providers, and volunteers.
  • Conduct onsite administrative duties.
  • Document and report any incidents occurring at the market, complete the post-market administrative responsibilities.

Marketing, Events and Activities (for all SFC Farmers' Markets)

  • Compile vendor and market information for inclusion in newsletter, social media, and other communications.
  • Serve as primary content contributor to SFC Farmers’ Market social media strategy and presence.
  • Lead the development and planning of market events and activities, such as third-party events, nonprofit participation, and single or recurring activities.

Market Planning and Administration

  • Assist with equipment, supplies procurement, or administrative duties, as needed.
  • Work with other coordinators on refining and updating market operations systems and procedures.
  • Assist with new vendor application review and participate in farm visits.

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field preferred
  • 3 years’ experience in farmers’ market operations or other similar business required
  • Experience using electronic and social media for effective marketing and business communication
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office applications, including Word and Excel, and using Microsoft Outlook
  • Proven ability to contribute to common goals in a team setting and to take a lead role within a team, such as project management and personnel supervision
  • Background in event coordination or management
  • Excellent written and oral communications and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrates a strong work ethic, high degree of organization, attention to detail, punctuality, and creative entrepreneurial spirit
  • Sense of humor, patience and perseverance
  • Ability to work in a physically demanding and fast-paced environment
  • Ability to stay motivated and efficient in an outdoor work setting, in a variety of weather conditions
  • Consistent availability on Saturdays
  • Bilingual English and Spanish preferred, but not required
