Bianca Bidiuc Peterson

Grow Local School Garden Manager

Bianca was born in Romania where she first experienced the ties between food, health, agriculture, and the environment in her grandparents’ garden. Her favorite childhood memories include visiting farmers markets and cooking with her grandmother. While completing her A.B. in International Affairs at the University of Georgia in Athens, GA, she fine-tuned her interest in sustainable community development, food systems, and cultural exchange by interning with non-profits in Athens, France, Romania, and the Dominican Republic; she also worked on a farm in Italy through WWOOF. At SFC, she started as an AmeriCorps VISTA Community Health Organizer, building wellness teams in underserved schools and connecting them to SFC resources and trainings. In her current role as the Grow Local gardening program’s School Garden Manager, she trains and supports school garden leaders to start and sustain school gardens in the Austin area. In May of 2015, she completed her Master of Science in Community & Regional Planning at the University of Texas-Austin where she researched food system planning for her professional report: “A Food System Plan for Austin.” In her spare time, Bianca enjoys bike rides, Romance languages, family recipes, and traveling.
